Prevention
Child abuse is a complex problem with many causes and the Wise Center’s approach to prevention responds to a range
of needs.

Programs
Research-based programs like “Steps to Respect” and “Talking about Touching” are implemented by the Wise Center into Houston County Schools and other local groups to not only bring awareness to child abuse but also provide young people with the knowledge to recognize unhealthy relationships and situations that may put the child at risk.

Prevention Through Awareness
By conducting educational programs in schools and presenting programs to the public, the Wise Center works to bring more awareness to child abuse, reach out to high risk groups, and illustrate destructive behaviors that could lead to abuse.

Identification
Through the Center’s relationships with local schools, the Juvenile Justice System, the House of Ruth, and other agencies, the Wise Center is able to assist in the identification of victims and offer services.  With strong community partnerships, like with the House of Ruth, each agency is able to provide invaluable benefits to the victims.

Counseling
The Wise Center’s staff of Masters level counselors spend their days providing individual, couples and family therapy to victims of abuse and families in need.  Each counselor also does his or her share of group sessions through parenting classes, survivor groups and anger management classes.
